1Adam blev far til Set, som blev far til Enosh. Enosh blev far til Kenan, 2som blev far til Mahalalel. Mahalalel blev far til Jered, 3som blev far til Enok. Enok blev far til Metusalem og Metusalem til Lemek, 4som blev far til Noa. Noa fik tre sønner: Sem, Kam og Jafet. 5Jafets sønner ▼▼ Det hebraiske ord for „sønner” kan også henvise til slægter, idet slægten fik navn efter den person, der startede slægten. Nogle af disse navne er klart navne på en hel slægt eller et helt folk. Jf. 1.Mos. 10,2-31 .

9Kush fik sønnerne Seba, Havila, Sabta, Rama og Sabteka. Ramas sønner hed Saba og Dedan. 10Kush havde også en efterkommer ved navn Nimrod. Han var en heltemodig kriger. 11Mitzrajim blev stamfar til luditterne, anamitterne, lehabitterne, naftuhitterne, 12patrusitterne, kasluhitterne og kaftoritterne (som filistrene stammer fra). 13Kana’ans ældste søn hed Sidon og blev stamfar til sidonitterne. Kana’an blev også stamfar til hittitterne, 14jebusitterne, amoritterne, girgashitterne, 15hivvitterne, arkitterne, sinitterne, 16arvaditterne, zemaritterne og hamatitterne. 17Sems sønner var Elam, Ashur, Arpakshad, Lud og Aram. Arams sønner hed ▼▼ Ordene, som er oversat: „Arams sønner hed:” er faldet ud af en del af de hebraiske og græske manuskripter. Se 1.Mos. 10,23 .

Jokshan fik sønnerne Saba og Dedan. 33Midjan blev far til Efa, Efer, Enok, Abida og Elda’a. De var alle sammen efterkommere af Ketura. 34Abrahams søn Isak fik to sønner, Esau og Jakob. ▼▼ Teksten bruger her og i 2,1 hans andet navn, Israel.
35Esau fik sønnerne Elifaz, Reuel, Jeush, Jalam og Kora. 36Elifaz fik sønnerne Teman, Omar, Zefo, Gatam og Kenaz. Seir fik sønnerne Lotan, Shobal, Zibon, Ana, Dishon, Etzer, Dishan og datteren Timna. Lotan fik to sønner: Hori og Homam. 40Shobal fik sønnerne Alvan, Manahat, Ebal, Shefo og Onam. Zibon fik sønnerne Ajja og Ana. 41Ana fik sønnen Dishon, som igen fik sønnerne Hemdan, Eshban, Jitran og Keran. 42Etzer fik sønnerne Bilhan, Za’avan og Akan. Dishan fik sønnerne Utz og Aran. 43Endnu før der var konger i Israel, herskede følgende konger i det, der nu hedder Edom: Først Bela, Beors søn fra byen Dinhaba. 44Da han døde, efterfulgtes han af Jobab, Zerachs søn fra Botzra. 45Da Jobab døde, efterfulgtes han af Husham fra temanitternes område. 46Da Husham døde, blev Hadad konge. Han var søn af Bedad og kom fra byen Avit. Det var ham, der besejrede midjanitternes hær i Moabs land. 47Da Hadad døde, blev Samla fra Masreka konge. 48Da han døde, blev Shaul fra flodbyen Rehobot konge. 49Da han døde, blev Ba’al-Hanan, Ahbors søn, konge. 50Da han døde, blev Hadar fra Pau konge. Hans kone hed Mehetabel og var datter af Matred, som igen var datter af Mezahab. 51Slægtsoverhovederne i Esaus slægt hed Timna, Alva, Jetet, 52Oholibama, Ela, Pinon, 53Kenaz, Teman, Mibzar, 54Magdiel og Iram.

How do I do a word study?

When you click on a word, the detailed lexicon opens with:
'Vocabulary' Bibles link the translation to Greek & Hebrew. So far, only some Bibles have this vocabulary feature. They are shown in the Bible select screen with the letter 'V'.
It is the number of occurrences of a word in the Bible. Click on it to see them all in the selected Bible(s).
This reveals different forms for some words and names. These details are often interesting to scholars, eg the word 'beginning' in Genesis.
