The High Priestly Prayer
1When Jesus had spoken these words, ahe lifted up his eyes to heaven, and said, “Father, bthe hour has come; cglorify your Son that the Son may dglorify you, 2since eyou have given him authority over all flesh, fto give eternal life to all gwhom you have given him. 3 hAnd this is eternal life, ithat they know you, jthe only ktrue God, and lJesus Christ whom you have sent. 4I mglorified you on earth, nhaving accomplished the work that you gave me to do. 5And now, Father, oglorify me in your own presence with the glory pthat I had with you qbefore the world existed. 6 r“I have manifested your name to the people swhom you gave me out of the world. tYours they were, and you gave them to me, and they have kept your word. 7Now they know that everything uthat you have given me is from you. 8For I have given them vthe words that you gave me, and they have received them and have come to know in truth that wI came from you; and xthey have believed that you sent me. 9I am praying for them. yI am not praying for the world but for those zwhom you have given me, for aathey are yours. 10 abAll mine are yours, and yours are mine, and acI am glorified in them. 11And I am no longer in the world, but adthey are in the world, and aeI am coming to you. afHoly Father, agkeep them in your name, ahwhich you have given me, aithat they may be one, ajeven as we are one. 12 akWhile I was with them, I kept them in your name, which you have given me. I have alguarded them, and amnot one of them has been lost except anthe son of destruction, aothat the Scripture might be fulfilled. 13But now apI am coming to you, and these things I speak in the world, that they may have aqmy joy fulfilled in themselves. 14 arI have given them your word, and asthe world has hated them atbecause they are not of the world, aujust as I am not of the world. 15I avdo not ask that you awtake them out of the world, but that you axkeep them from aythe evil one. ▼▼Or from evil
16 baThey are not of the world, just as I am not of the world. 17 bbSanctify them ▼▼Greek Set them apart (for holy service to God)
in the truth; bdyour word is truth. 18 beAs you sent me into the world, so I have sent them into the world. 19And bffor their sake bgI consecrate myself, ▼ that they also bimay be sanctified ▼▼Greek may be set apart (for holy service to God)
in truth. 20“I do not bkask for these only, but also for those blwho will believe in me through their word, 21 bmthat they may all be one, just as you, Father, are in me, and I in you, that bnthey also may be in bous, so that the world bpmay believe that you have sent me. 22 bqThe glory that you have given me brI have given to them, bsthat they may be one even as we are one, 23 btI in them and you in me, buthat they may become perfectly one, bvso that the world may know that you sent me and bwloved them even as bxyou loved me. 24Father, I desire that they also, whom you have given me, may be bywith me bzwhere I am, cato see my glory that you have given me because you loved me cbbefore the foundation of the world. 25 ccO righteous Father, even though cdthe world does not know you, I know you, and these know that you have sent me. 26 ceI made known to them your name, and I will continue to make it known, that the love cfwith which you have loved me may be in them, and cgI in them.”
