Jesus Feeds the Four Thousand
1 aIn those days, when again a great crowd had gathered, and they had nothing to eat, he called his disciples to him and said to them, 2 b“I have compassion on the crowd, because they have been with me now three days and have nothing to eat. 3And if I send them away hungry to their homes, they will faint on the way. And some of them have come from far away.” 4And his disciples answered him, “How can one feed these people with bread here in this desolate place?” 5And he asked them, “How many loaves do you have?” They said, c“Seven.” 6And he directed the crowd to sit down on the ground. And he took the seven loaves, and dhaving given thanks, he broke them and gave them to his disciples to set before the people; and they set them before the crowd. 7And they had a few small fish. And ehaving blessed them, he said that these also should be set before them. 8And fthey ate and were satisfied. And they took up the broken pieces left over, gseven baskets full. 9And there were about four thousand people. 31 apAnd he began to teach them that aqthe Son of Man must arsuffer many things and asbe rejected by the elders and the chief priests and the scribes and be killed, and atafter three days rise again. 32And he said this auplainly. And Peter took him aside and began to rebuke him. 33But turning and seeing his disciples, he rebuked Peter and said, av“Get behind me, Satan! For you aware not setting your mind on the things of God, but on the things of man.” 34And calling the crowd to him with his disciples, he said to them, “If anyone would come after me, let him axdeny himself and aytake up his cross and follow me. 35For azwhoever would save his life ▼▼The same Greek word can mean either soul or life, depending on the context; twice in this verse and once in verse 36 and once in verse 37

How do I do a word study?

When you click on a word, the detailed lexicon opens with:
'Vocabulary' Bibles link the translation to Greek & Hebrew. So far, only some Bibles have this vocabulary feature. They are shown in the Bible select screen with the letter 'V'.
It is the number of occurrences of a word in the Bible. Click on it to see them all in the selected Bible(s).
This reveals different forms for some words and names. These details are often interesting to scholars, eg the word 'beginning' in Genesis.
