1Kun Daavid miehinensä kolmantena päivänä tuli Siklagiin, olivat amalekilaiset tehneet ryöstöretken Etelämaahan ja Siklagiin, ja he olivat vallanneet Siklagin ja polttaneet sen tulella. 2Naiset, mitä siellä oli, sekä pienet että suuret, he olivat ottaneet vangiksi, surmaamatta ketään; he olivat vieneet ne pois ja menneet matkoihinsa. 3Kun Daavid miehinensä tuli kaupunkiin, niin katso, se oli tulella poltettu, ja heidän vaimonsa, poikansa ja tyttärensä oli otettu vangiksi. 4Silloin Daavid ja väki, joka oli hänen kanssaan, korottivat äänensä ja itkivät, kunnes eivät enää jaksaneet itkeä. 5Vangiksi oli otettu myös Daavidin molemmat vaimot, jisreeliläinen Ahinoam ja Abigail, karmelilaisen Naabalin vaimo. 6Ja Daavid joutui suureen hätään, sillä kansa aikoi kivittää hänet: niin katkeroitunut oli koko kansa, kukin poikiensa ja tyttäriensä tähden. Mutta Daavid rohkaisi mielensä Herrassa, Jumalassansa. 7Ja Daavid sanoi pappi Ebjatarille, Ahimelekin pojalle: "Tuo minulle kasukka". Niin Ebjatar toi kasukan Daavidille. 8Ja Daavid kysyi Herralta: "Ajanko takaa tuota rosvojoukkoa? Saavutanko minä sen?" Hän vastasi hänelle: "Aja, sillä sinä saavutat sen ja pelastat pelastettavat". 9Niin Daavid lähti, hän ja ne kuusisataa miestä, jotka olivat hänen kanssaan, ja he tulivat Besorin purolle; siihen pysähtyivät ne, jotka olivat jääneet muista jälkeen. 10Mutta Daavid jatkoi takaa-ajoa neljänsadan miehen kanssa; sillä niitä, jotka väsyneinä pysähtyivät eivätkä menneet Besorin puron poikki, oli kaksisataa miestä. 11Ja he tapasivat kedolla egyptiläisen miehen ja toivat hänet Daavidin luo. Silloin hän virkosi henkiin; sillä hän ei ollut syönyt eikä juonut kolmeen vuorokauteen. 13Ja Daavid kysyi häneltä: "Kenen olet miehiä ja mistä tulet?" Hän vastasi: "Minä olen egyptiläinen nuorukainen, erään amalekilaisen miehen palvelija; mutta minun herrani jätti minut, sillä minä sairastuin kolme päivää sitten. 14Me teimme ryöstöretken kreettien, Juudan ja Kaalebin Etelämaahan ja poltimme Siklagin tulella." 15Daavid sanoi hänelle: "Vietkö minut tuon rosvojoukon luo?" How do I do a word study?

When you click on a word, the detailed lexicon opens with:
'Vocabulary' Bibles link the translation to Greek & Hebrew. So far, only some Bibles have this vocabulary feature. They are shown in the Bible select screen with the letter 'V'.
It is the number of occurrences of a word in the Bible. Click on it to see them all in the selected Bible(s).
This reveals different forms for some words and names. These details are often interesting to scholars, eg the word 'beginning' in Genesis.
