1Silloin Jeesus puhui kansalle ja opetuslapsilleen 2sanoen: "Mooseksen istuimella istuvat kirjanoppineet ja fariseukset. 3Sentähden, kaikki, mitä he sanovat teille, se tehkää ja pitäkää; mutta heidän tekojensa mukaan älkää tehkö, sillä he sanovat, mutta eivät tee. 4He sitovat kokoon raskaita ja vaikeasti kannettavia taakkoja ja panevat ne ihmisten hartioille, mutta itse he eivät tahdo niitä sormellaankaan liikuttaa. 5Ja kaikki tekonsa he tekevät sitä varten, että ihmiset heitä katselisivat. He tekevät raamatunlausekotelonsa leveiksi ja vaippansa tupsut suuriksi 6ja rakastavat ensimmäistä sijaa pidoissa ja etumaisia istuimia synagoogissa, 7ja tahtovat mielellään, että heitä tervehditään toreilla, ja että ihmiset kutsuvat heitä nimellä 'rabbi'. 8Mutta te älkää antako kutsua itseänne rabbiksi, sillä yksi on teidän opettajanne, ja te olette kaikki veljiä. 9Ja isäksenne älkää kutsuko ketään maan päällä, sillä yksi on teidän Isänne, hän, joka on taivaissa. 10Älkääkä antako kutsua itseänne mestareiksi, sillä yksi on teidän mestarinne, Kristus. 11Vaan joka teistä on suurin, se olkoon teidän palvelijanne. 12Mutta joka itsensä ylentää, se alennetaan; ja joka itsensä alentaa, se ylennetään. 13Mutta voi teitä, kirjanoppineet ja fariseukset, te ulkokullatut, kun suljette taivasten valtakunnan ihmisiltä! Sillä itse te ette mene sisälle, ettekä salli meneväisten sisälle mennä. 15Voi teitä, kirjanoppineet ja fariseukset, te ulkokullatut, kun te kierrätte meret ja mantereet tehdäksenne yhden käännynnäisen; ja kun joku on siksi tullut, niin teette hänestä helvetin lapsen, kahta vertaa pahemman, kuin te itse olette! 16Voi teitä, te sokeat taluttajat, jotka sanotte: 'Jos joku vannoo temppelin kautta, niin se ei ole mitään; mutta jos joku vannoo temppelin kullan kautta, niin hän on valaansa sidottu'! 17Te tyhmät ja sokeat! Kumpi on suurempi, kultako vai temppeli, joka kullan pyhittää? 18Ja: 'Jos joku vannoo alttarin kautta, niin se ei ole mitään; mutta jos joku vannoo sen päällä olevan uhrilahjan kautta, niin hän on valaansa sidottu'. 19Te sokeat! Näitä tulisi noudattaa, eikä noitakaan sikseen jättää. 24Te sokeat taluttajat, jotka siivilöitte hyttysen, mutta nielette kamelin! 25Voi teitä, kirjanoppineet ja fariseukset, te ulkokullatut, kun te puhdistatte maljan ja vadin ulkopuolen, mutta sisältä ne ovat täynnä ryöstöä ja hillittömyyttä! 26Sinä sokea fariseus, puhdista ensin maljan sisus, että sen ulkopuolikin tulisi puhtaaksi! 27Voi teitä, kirjanoppineet ja fariseukset, te ulkokullatut, kun te olette valkeiksi kalkittujen hautojen kaltaisia: ulkoa ne kyllä näyttävät kauniilta, mutta ovat sisältä täynnä kuolleitten luita ja kaikkea saastaa! 28Samoin tekin ulkoa kyllä näytätte ihmisten silmissä hurskailta, mutta sisältä te olette täynnä ulkokultaisuutta ja laittomuutta. 29Voi teitä, kirjanoppineet ja fariseukset, te ulkokullatut, kun te rakennatte profeettain hautoja ja kaunistatte vanhurskasten hautakammioita, 30ja sanotte: 'Jos me olisimme eläneet isäimme päivinä, emme olisi olleet osallisia heidän kanssaan profeettain vereen'! 31Niin te siis todistatte itsestänne, että olette niiden lapsia, jotka tappoivat profeetat. 32Täyttäkää siis te isäinne mitta. 33Te käärmeet, te kyykäärmeitten sikiöt, kuinka te pääsisitte helvetin tuomiota pakoon? 34Sentähden, katso, minä lähetän teidän tykönne profeettoja ja viisaita ja kirjanoppineita. How do I do a word study?

When you click on a word, the detailed lexicon opens with:
'Vocabulary' Bibles link the translation to Greek & Hebrew. So far, only some Bibles have this vocabulary feature. They are shown in the Bible select screen with the letter 'V'.
It is the number of occurrences of a word in the Bible. Click on it to see them all in the selected Bible(s).
This reveals different forms for some words and names. These details are often interesting to scholars, eg the word 'beginning' in Genesis.
