Kasih—ciri anak-anak Allah
1 Coba bayangkan, betapa besar kasih Bapa di surga kepada kita, karena Ia membolehkan kita disebut anak-anak-Nya, dan sesungguhnya kita adalah anak-anak-Nya. Tetapi, karena kebanyakan orang tidak mengenal Allah, dengan sendirinya mereka tidak mengerti bahwa kita adalah anak-anak-Nya. 2Sahabat-sahabat yang saya kasihi, sekarang ini kita sudah menjadi anak-anak Allah. Kita tidak dapat membayangkan bagaimana keadaan kita kelak. Tetapi kita tahu bahwa apabila Ia datang, kita akan menjadi seperti Dia, karena kita telah melihat Dia dalam keadaan yang sebenarnya. 3Setiap orang yang benar-benar percaya akan hal ini, akan berusaha untuk tetap suci, karena Kristus suci.4Tetapi orang yang terus-menerus berbuat dosa, melawan Allah; karena tiap dosa adalah perbuatan melawan kehendak Allah. 5Dan Saudara tahu bahwa Ia menjadi manusia agar dapat menghapus dosa kita, dan bahwa di dalam Dia tidak ada dosa, tidak ada perlawanan terhadap kehendak Allah pada saat mana pun dan dengan cara bagaimanapun juga. 6Jadi, apabila kita tinggal dekat dengan Dia dan patuh kepada-Nya, kita pun tidak akan berbuat dosa. Tetapi mereka yang terus-menerus berbuat dosa, harus menyadari hal ini: mereka berdosa, sebab mereka belum pernah mengenal Dia ataupun menjadi milik-Nya.
7Anak-anak yang saya kasihi, jangan membiarkan orang lain memperdayakan Saudara. Hanya mereka benar yang seperti Kristus, menjalani kehidupan yang menyenangkan hati Allah. 8Tetapi, jika Saudara terus-menerus berbuat dosa, hal itu menunjukkan bahwa Saudara milik Iblis, yang tetap pada perbuatan dosanya sejak ia pertama kali berdosa. Tetapi Anak Allah datang untuk memusnahkan pekerjaan-pekerjaan Iblis itu. 9Orang yang telah lahir dalam keluarga Allah tidak membiasakan diri berbuat dosa, sebab Allah telah memberinya kuasa, yang menciptakan kehidupan baru di dalam dirinya. Maka ia tidak dapat terus-menerus berbuat dosa, karena ia menjadi anak Allah.
10Jadi, sekarang kita dapat membedakan siapa anak Allah dan siapa milik Iblis. Barang siapa hidup dalam dosa dan tidak mengasihi saudaranya, nyatalah bahwa ia tidak termasuk keluarga Allah; 11sebab berita yang disampaikan kepada kita sejak semula ialah bahwa kita harus saling mengasihi.
12Kita tidak boleh seperti Kain, yang menjadi milik Iblis dan membunuh saudaranya. Mengapa ia membunuhnya? Karena Kain telah berbuat salah dan ia tahu benar, bahwa hidup saudaranya lebih baik daripada hidupnya. 13Saudara-saudara yang saya kasihi, janganlah heran apabila dunia membenci Saudara.
14Jikalau kita mengasihi sesama manusia, hal itu membuktikan bahwa kita telah dilepaskan dari neraka dan telah memperoleh hidup kekal. Tetapi orang yang tidak mengasihi sesamanya, menuju kepada kematian kekal. 15Setiap orang yang membenci sesamanya, membunuh dalam hati; dan Saudara tahu bahwa yang ingin membunuh, tidak mempunyai hidup kekal di dalam dirinya. 16Kita mengenal arti kasih yang sejati dari teladan Kristus yang mati untuk kita. Karena itu, kita pun patut menyerahkan nyawa kita untuk sesama kita.
17Jikalau seseorang menyebut dirinya Kristen dan serba cukup hidupnya, melihat sesamanya dalam kekurangan, tetapi ia tidak mau membantunya—bagaimana mungkin kasih Allah ada di dalam dia? 18Anak-anak saya, janganlah kita hanya sekadar mengatakan bahwa kita mengasihi orang lain; marilah kita mengasihi mereka dan menunjukkan kasih kita dengan perbuatan kita. 19Dengan demikian kita akan mengetahui dari perbuatan kita bahwa kita di pihak kebenaran dan akan bisa berdiri di hadapan Tuhan dengan hati nurani yang baik. 20Bahkan jikalau kita mempunyai hati nurani yang buruk dan merasa bahwa kita telah berbuat salah, Allah dalam kebesaran-Nya lebih berbelas kasih dari hati kita sendiri. Ia mengetahui segala sesuatu, tidak hanya melihat pelanggaran kita.
21Tetapi, Sahabat-sahabat yang saya kasihi, jikalau hati nurani kita jernih, kita dapat menghadap Tuhan dengan keyakinan yang pasti. 22Kita dapat memperoleh segala yang kita minta, karena kita menaati-Nya dan melakukan hal-hal yang menyenangkan Dia. 23Maka inilah yang Allah ingin kita lakukan: percaya akan nama Anak-Nya, Yesus Kristus, dan saling mengasihi. 24Mereka yang melakukan apa yang dikatakan Allah, hidup bersama dengan Allah dan Allah hidup bersama dengan mereka. Kita tahu hal ini benar, karena Roh Kudus, yang telah dikaruniakan-Nya kepada kita, mengatakan demikian.

How do I do a word study?

When you click on a word, the detailed lexicon opens with:
'Vocabulary' Bibles link the translation to Greek & Hebrew. So far, only some Bibles have this vocabulary feature. They are shown in the Bible select screen with the letter 'V'.
It is the number of occurrences of a word in the Bible. Click on it to see them all in the selected Bible(s).
This reveals different forms for some words and names. These details are often interesting to scholars, eg the word 'beginning' in Genesis.
