Milik Allah pribadi
1 Karena itu, buanglah segala perasaan benci. Jangan hanya berpura-pura baik! Hentikanlah ketidakjujuran dan kedengkian serta kebiasaan mempercakapkan keburukan orang lain. 2Seperti anak yang baru lahir mengingini susu murni, begitu Saudara harus meminta ajaran Allah yang tidak tercemar. Lalu Saudara akan tumbuh dalam iman dan mencapai tujuan, yaitu keselamatan Saudara. 3Saudara sudah mengalami kebaikan Tuhan. 4Datanglah kepada Kristus—Batu yang hidup itu. Di atas-Nyalah Allah membangun. Walaupun ditolak oleh manusia, Batu itu sangat berharga bagi Allah, yang telah memilih-Nya di atas segala yang lain.5Dan sekarang Saudara telah menjadi batu bangunan yang hidup untuk dipakai Allah membangun rumah-Nya. Bahkan Saudara adalah imam-Nya yang kudus. Karena itu, datanglah kepada-Nya—Saudara diterima oleh-Nya karena Yesus Kristus—dan persembahkanlah kepada Allah hal-hal yang menyukakan hati-Nya. 6Seperti dikatakan dalam Kitab Suci:
“Lihatlah, Aku menempatkan Batu Penjuru yang dipilih dan berharga di Yerusalem,
dan siapa pun membangun di atasnya dan percaya kepadanya
tidak akan pernah dikecewakan.”
7Ia sangat berharga bagi Saudara yang percaya; sedangkan bagi mereka yang menolak Dia:
“Batu yang dibuang oleh tukang-tukang bangunan
telah menjadi batu penjuru, yaitu bagian bangunan yang paling penting.”
8Kitab Suci juga berkata:
“Dialah Batu yang menyebabkan beberapa orang tersandung dan jatuh.”
Mereka akan tersandung, sebab mereka tidak mau mendengarkan dan menaati firman Allah, dan sebagai hukuman mereka akan jatuh.
9Tetapi Saudara tidak seperti itu, sebab Saudara adalah umat pilihan Allah, imam-imam Kerajaan-Nya itu, bangsa suci yang sepenuhnya milik Allah. Karena itu, Saudara harus memberitakan perbuatan-perbuatan besar Allah yang telah memanggil Saudara dari kegelapan untuk masuk ke dalam terang-Nya yang ajaib.
10Dahulu Saudara bukan umat-Nya,
sekarang Saudara milik Allah.
Dahulu Saudara tidak tahu rahmat Allah,
tetapi sekarang sudah mengalaminya.
11Saudara sekalian yang saya kasihi, di dunia ini Saudara hanya sebagai tamu. Karena rumah Saudara yang sesungguhnya ada di surga, saya mohon supaya Saudara menghindarkan diri dari kesenangan yang jahat di dunia ini. Kesenangan dunia bukan untuk Saudara, sebab berperang melawan jiwa Saudara sendiri.
12Jagalah kelakuan Saudara bila berada di tengah-tengah orang yang belum diselamatkan. Meskipun waktu itu mereka mencurigai serta menentang Saudara, kelak pada waktu Kristus kembali, mereka akan memuji Allah karena perbuatan baik yang telah Saudara lakukan. 13Demi Tuhan, taatilah setiap hukum negara, baik yang dikeluarkan oleh kepala negara, 14maupun yang dikeluarkan oleh pejabat-pejabat yang telah diberi wewenang untuk menghukum yang bersalah dan menghormati yang berbuat baik.
15Allah ingin supaya hidup Saudara yang baik itu menutup mulut orang yang karena ketidaktahuan atau kebodohan memfitnah Saudara. 16Saudara mempunyai kebebasan, tetapi tidak berarti bebas untuk berbuat salah. Pakailah kebebasan itu semata-mata untuk melakukan kehendak Allah.
17Hormatilah setiap orang. Kasihilah semua orang Kristen di mana pun juga. Takutlah akan Allah dan hormatilah pemerintah.
18Para hamba, hendaknya Saudara menghormati majikan dan melakukan apa pun yang disuruhkan, bukan hanya apabila mereka baik dan bijaksana, melainkan juga apabila mereka keras dan kejam. 19Pujilah Tuhan apabila Saudara dihukum karena berbuat benar! 20Apabila Saudara dipukuli karena berbuat salah, tentu saja Saudara tidak mendapat pujian atas kesabaran Saudara. Tetapi, apabila Saudara menderita dan sabar menanggung pukulan karena berbuat benar, Saudara menyukakan hati Allah.
21Semua penderitaan ini adalah bagian dari pekerjaan yang diberikan Allah kepada Saudara. Kristus yang menderita untuk Saudara adalah teladan Saudara. Ikutilah jejak-Nya:
22Ia tidak pernah berdosa,
tidak pernah berdusta,
23dan tidak pernah membalas bila dihina. Ketika Ia menderita,
Ia tidak mengancam akan membalas dendam.
Ia menyerahkan persoalan-Nya ke dalam tangan Allah
yang senantiasa berlaku adil.
24Ia sendiri menanggung dosa kita
di dalam tubuh-Nya, ketika Ia mati di kayu salib;
sehingga kita dapat berhenti berdosa dan
mulai sekarang kita hidup untuk kebenaran,
sebab oleh bilur-bilur-Nya
kita disembuhkan.
25Seperti domba,
dahulu Saudara sesat dari jalan Allah,
tetapi sekarang Saudara telah kembali kepada Gembala Saudara,
yang membimbing dan melindungi Saudara.

How do I do a word study?

When you click on a word, the detailed lexicon opens with:
'Vocabulary' Bibles link the translation to Greek & Hebrew. So far, only some Bibles have this vocabulary feature. They are shown in the Bible select screen with the letter 'V'.
It is the number of occurrences of a word in the Bible. Click on it to see them all in the selected Bible(s).
This reveals different forms for some words and names. These details are often interesting to scholars, eg the word 'beginning' in Genesis.
