Rumah tangga yang bahagia
1 Saudara istri-istri, tunduklah pada suami Saudara dengan cara yang sama! Demikian, jika beberapa dari mereka menolak Kabar Kesukaan, kehidupan Saudara akan berbicara lebih banyak daripada kata-kata. 2Mereka akan diyakinkan dengan melihat kehidupan Saudara yang murni dan terhormat.3Jangan mementingkan kecantikan lahiriah yang bergantung pada perhiasan, pakaian indah, serta dandanan rambut. 4Utamakanlah kecantikan batin, yang mencerminkan kelembutan dan ketenangan jiwa yang sangat berharga bagi Allah. 5Kecantikan batin semacam itu terlihat pada wanita-wanita saleh zaman dahulu, yang memercayai Allah dan tunduk pada suami mereka.
6Sara, misalnya, patuh kepada suaminya, Abraham, serta menghormatinya sebagai kepala keluarga. Jika Saudara berlaku demikian dan tidak membiarkan apa pun menakuti Saudara, Saudara akan mengikuti jejaknya sebagai anak-anaknya yang melakukan hal-hal yang benar.
7Dan para suami, hendaklah Saudara bersikap bijaksana terhadap istri. Perhatikanlah kebutuhan mereka dan hormatilah mereka sebagai kaum lemah. Ingatlah bahwa istri Saudara adalah sekutu Saudara dalam menerima berkat Allah dan jikalau Saudara tidak memperlakukannya sebagaimana mestinya, doa Saudara mungkin tidak mendapat jawaban.
8Sekarang, kata-kata ini saya tujukan kepada semua orang: Bersatu hati dan pikiran! Ambil bagian dalam kehidupan satu sama lain dan saling mencintai sebagai saudara! Kasihanilah dengan kelembutan dan kerendahan hati. 9Jangan membalas kejahatan dengan kejahatan. Jangan membalas memaki orang yang mencerca Saudara. Sebaliknya, berdoalah meminta berkah Allah bagi mereka, sebab Allah juga memanggil Saudara untuk menerima berkat-Nya.
10Kalau Saudara ingin hidup baik dan bahagia,
jagalah lidah Saudara dari perkataan yang jahat
dan jangan biarkan bibir Saudara berbicara dusta.
11Jauhkan diri dari yang jahat dan lakukanlah yang baik.
Saudara harus berusaha dan berjuang untuk hidup damai dengan setiap orang,
12sebab Tuhan mengawasi semua orang yang hidup benar
dan mendengarkan doa mereka;
tetapi Ia menentang
orang-orang yang berbuat jahat.
13Biasanya kalau Saudara berbuat baik, orang tidak akan berbuat jahat terhadap Saudara, 14tetapi sekalipun mereka berbuat demikian, Saudara patut merasa bahagia, sebab Allah akan memberi Saudara pahala. 15Dengan tenang serahkanlah diri Saudara kepada Kristus, Tuhan Saudara. Apabila orang bertanya apa sebabnya Saudara memiliki kepercayaan seperti itu, siap sedialah untuk menjawab dengan lemah lembut serta sopan.
16Lakukanlah dengan baik dan penuh hormat, selalu berhati-hati untuk memiliki hati nurani yang baik. Karena jika Saudara menjalani kehidupan teladan, sebagaimana layaknya milik Kristus, mereka yang mengumpat Saudara akan merasa malu karena tuduhan mereka terbukti tidak berdasar. 17Ingatlah, jika Allah menghendaki Saudara menderita, lebih baik menderita karena perbuatan baik daripada menderita karena perbuatan jahat!

18Kristus juga menderita. Ia mati satu kali untuk kita, orang-orang berdosa, meskipun Ia sendiri tidak pernah bersalah, supaya Ia dapat membawa kita dengan selamat ke rumah Allah. Tubuh-Nya mati, tetapi Roh Allah membangkitkan-Nya ke kehidupan baru. 19Di dalam kekuatan Roh ini Ia mengunjungi roh-roh yang terbelenggu, serta menyampaikan Berita Kesukaan kepada mereka— 20yaitu kepada roh-roh orang yang lama sebelumnya, yaitu pada zaman Nabi Nuh, tidak mau mendengarkan Allah; sementara Nuh membangun bahtera, Allah dengan sabar menunggu untuk pelaksanaan penghakiman. Ketika banjir datang, hanya delapan orang yang dibawa di dalam bahtera melalui air dan diselamatkan. 21(Hal ini digambarkan kepada kita oleh baptisan, yang menunjukkan bahwa oleh kebangkitan Kristus kita telah diselamatkan dari kematian dan kebinasaan, bukan karena badan kita dicuci bersih dengan air, melainkan karena dengan dibaptis kita kembali kepada Allah dan meminta Dia untuk membersihkan hati kita dari dosa.) 22Dan sekarang Kristus berada di surga, duduk di tempat kemuliaan di sebelah kanan Allah Bapa, dan segala malaikat, semua penguasa serta kekuatan tunduk pada kekuasaan-Nya.

How do I do a word study?

When you click on a word, the detailed lexicon opens with:
'Vocabulary' Bibles link the translation to Greek & Hebrew. So far, only some Bibles have this vocabulary feature. They are shown in the Bible select screen with the letter 'V'.
It is the number of occurrences of a word in the Bible. Click on it to see them all in the selected Bible(s).
This reveals different forms for some words and names. These details are often interesting to scholars, eg the word 'beginning' in Genesis.
