Kuasa dosa sudah dipatahkan
1 Kalau begitu, apakah kita akan terus-menerus melakukan dosa, supaya Allah dapat menunjukkan lebih banyak kebaikan dan kemurahan hati-Nya kepada kita?2– 3Tentu saja tidak! Kita mati bagi dosa, bagaimana kita bisa terus-menerus hidup dengan berbuat dosa? Sebab kuasa dosa atas kita dipatahkan pada waktu kita menjadi orang Kristen dan dibaptiskan untuk menjadi bagian dari Yesus Kristus. Kematian-Nya telah menghancurleburkan kuasa dosa dalam diri Saudara. 4Pada waktu Dia mati, tabiat Saudara yang lama, yang cenderung kepada dosa, dikuburkan bersama dengan Dia oleh baptisan, dan ketika Allah Bapa menghidupkan-Nya lagi dengan kekuasaan-Nya yang mulia, Saudara dapat menikmati hidup-Nya yang baru dan yang menakjubkan itu.
5Karena Saudara sudah menjadi bagian dari Dia, maka dapat dikatakan bahwa pada saat Dia mati, Saudara mati bersama dengan Dia. Dan sekarang Saudara mendapat bagian dalam hidup-Nya yang baru, dan akan dibangkitkan sebagaimana Dia dibangkitkan. 6Keinginan-keinginan jahat yang dahulu ada pada Saudara telah dipakukan pada salib bersama dengan Dia. Bagian Saudara yang cenderung kepada dosa itu telah dikalahkan dan dilumpuhkan, sehingga tubuh Saudara yang berdosa itu tidak lagi dikuasai oleh dosa dan tidak perlu lagi menjadi hamba dosa. 7Ketika Saudara dimatikan terhadap dosa, Saudara dibebaskan dari segala bujukan dan kuasanya. 8Karena tabiat Saudara yang lama, yang cenderung kepada dosa itu, “mati” bersama dengan Kristus, maka kita tahu bahwa Saudara sekarang mendapat bagian dalam hidup-Nya yang baru. 9Kristus bangkit dari antara orang mati dan tidak akan mati lagi. Kematian tidak lagi berkuasa atas Dia. 10Ia mati satu kali untuk mengakhiri kuasa dosa untuk selama-lamanya, tetapi sekarang Ia hidup kekal dalam persekutuan dengan Allah. 11Jadi, anggaplah tabiat Saudara yang lama itu sudah mati dan tidak lagi berada di bawah pengaruh dosa. Hiduplah bagi Allah dengan perantaraan Yesus Kristus, Tuhan kita.
12Kehidupan ini fana. Jangan biarkan diri Saudara melalui nafsunya dikuasai lagi oleh dosa. Janganlah menyerah kepadanya dengan menuruti keinginannya yang jahat. 13Jangan biarkan satu pun dari anggota tubuh Saudara diperalat oleh kejahatan untuk berbuat dosa, melainkan serahkanlah diri Saudara sebulat-bulatnya kepada Allah, sebab Saudara telah dihidupkan dari kematian dan Saudara ingin supaya dijadikan alat dalam tangan Allah bagi maksud-maksud-Nya yang baik. 14Dosa tidak perlu lagi menguasai Saudara, sebab sekarang Saudara tidak lagi terikat oleh Hukum Taurat sebagai hamba dosa, melainkan telah bebas di dalam kasih dan kemurahan Allah.
15Apakah ini berarti bahwa kita sekarang dapat terus berbuat dosa dan tidak peduli mengenai hal itu, sebab keselamatan kita peroleh bukan karena kita menaati Hukum Taurat, melainkan karena menerima karunia Allah? Tentu saja bukan demikian maksudnya!
16Tidakkah Saudara sadar bahwa Saudara dapat memilih siapa yang ingin Saudara pertuan? Saudara dapat memilih dosa (dengan kematian) atau ketaatan (dengan pembebasan). Kalau Saudara menyerahkan diri kepada seseorang, maka orang itu akan memiliki Saudara dan menjadi tuan Saudara dan Saudara akan menjadi hambanya. 17Bersyukurlah kepada Allah, sebab walaupun dahulu Saudara lebih suka menjadi hamba dosa, sekarang dengan segenap hati Saudara telah menaati ajaran yang diberikan Allah kepada Saudara. 18Sekarang Saudara telah bebas dari tuan yang lama, yaitu dosa, dan Saudara telah menjadi hamba tuan yang baru, yaitu kebenaran.
19Saya berkata-kata dengan memakai perumpamaan tentang hamba dan tuan supaya mudah dipahami: seperti halnya Saudara dahulu menjadi hamba segala macam dosa, sekarang Saudara harus menjadi hamba segala sesuatu yang benar dan suci.
20Dahulu, waktu Saudara masih menjadi hamba dosa, Saudara tidak banyak menghiraukan kebaikan. 21Dan apakah akibatnya? Rupanya tidak baik, sebab sekarang, kalau teringat akan perbuatan-perbuatan yang biasa Saudara lakukan pada masa lampau, Saudara sudah merasa malu, sebab perbuatan-perbuatan itu berakhir dengan kebinasaan yang kekal. 22Tetapi sekarang Saudara telah bebas dari kuasa dosa dan menjadi hamba Allah, dan rahmat-Nya kepada Saudara mencakup kesucian dan hidup kekal. 23Sebab upah dosa ialah maut, tetapi karunia Allah ialah hidup kekal dalam Yesus Kristus, Tuhan kita.

When you click on a word, the detailed lexicon opens with:
'Vocabulary' Bibles link the translation to Greek & Hebrew. So far, only some Bibles have this vocabulary feature. They are shown in the Bible select screen with the letter 'V'.
It is the number of occurrences of a word in the Bible. Click on it to see them all in the selected Bible(s).
This reveals different forms for some words and names. These details are often interesting to scholars, eg the word 'beginning' in Genesis.
