David volgde het bevel van de Here op en versloeg het Filistijnse leger tussen Gibeon en Gezer. 1David werd al snel beroemd en de Here zorgde ervoor dat hij in alle landen een gevreesd man werd. 2De ark keert terug in Jeruzalem
3David bouwde in Jeruzalem enkele paleizen voor zichzelf en zocht ook een geschikte plaats uit voor de ark van God. Dit waren de priesters en Levieten die bij die gebeurtenis aanwezig waren: honderdtwintig leden van de Kehatfamilie, onder leiding van Uriël; tweehonderdtwintig leden van de Merarifamilie, onder leiding van Asaja; honderddertig leden van de Gersomfamilie, met Joël als hun leider; tweehonderd leden van de familie van Elisafan, onder leiding van Semaja; tachtig leden van de familie van Chebron, onder leiding van Eliël, en honderdtwaalf leden van de familie van Uzziël, onder leiding van Amminadab. 13David riep de hogepriesters Sadok en Abjatar en de Levietenleiders Uriël, Asaja, Joël, Semaja, Eliël en Amminadab bij zich. 14‘U bent de leiders van de families van de Levieten,’ zei hij. ‘Reinig uzelf en al uw broeders, zodat u de ark van de Here, de God van Israël, naar de plaats kunt brengen die ik daarvoor heb klaargemaakt. 15De Here heeft ons een zware slag toegebracht, omdat u er de vorige maal niet bij was om de ark te dragen en wij ons niet aan Gods voorschrift hielden.’ 16Zo onderwierpen de priesters en de Levieten zich aan de reinigingsceremonieën, als voorbereiding op het terugbrengen van de ark van de Here, de God van Israël. 17Daarna namen de Levieten de ark met behulp van de draagstokken op hun schouders, precies zoals Mozes het in opdracht van de Here had voorgeschreven. 18Koning David gaf de leiders van de Levieten tevens opdracht de zangers te voorzien van muziekinstrumenten, en zij zongen en speelden luid en vrolijk op harpen, citers en cimbalen. 19Heman, de zoon van Joël, Asaf, de zoon van Berechja, en Etan, de zoon van Kusajahu, uit de familie van Merari, werden door de Levieten aangewezen voor de muzikale leiding. 20 ▼▼ This verse is empty because in this translation its contents have been moved to form part of verse 1.Krøn. 15:19.

De volgende mannen werden gekozen als hun helpers: Zecharja, Ben-Jaäziël, Semiramot, Jechiël, Unni, Eliab, Benaja, Maäseja, Mattitja, Elifelehu, Miknejahu, Obed-Edom en Jeiël, de poortwachters. De koorleiders Heman, Asaf en Etan bespeelden tevens de koperen cimbalen en 22Zecharja, Aziël, Semiramot, Jechiël, Unni, Eliab, Maäseja en Benaja zongen samen, begeleid door hooggestemde harpen. 23Mattitja, Elifelehu, Miknejahu, Obed-Edom, Jeiël en Azazjahu bespeelden de citers die acht tonen lager waren gestemd. 24Dirigent was Kenanja, het hoofd van de Levieten, die was gevraagd wegens zijn grote ervaring. 25Berechja en Elkana fungeerden als wachters bij de ark. 26Sebanja, Josafat, Netanel, Amasai, Zecharja, Benaja en Eliëzer— allemaal priesters—liepen vooraan in de stoet en bespeelden trompetten. Ook Obed-Edom en Jechia bewaakten de ark. 27David, de leiders van Israël en de hoge officieren gingen toen blij gestemd naar het huis van Obed-Edom om de ark naar Jeruzalem te brengen. 28En omdat de Here de Levieten hielp de ark veilig naar zijn plek te dragen, offerden zij zeven stieren en zeven lammeren. 29David, de Levieten die de ark droegen, de koorleiders en de dirigent Kenanja waren allen gekleed in linnen gewaden. David droeg bovendien nog een linnen lijfrok.

When you click on a word, the detailed lexicon opens with:
'Vocabulary' Bibles link the translation to Greek & Hebrew. So far, only some Bibles have this vocabulary feature. They are shown in the Bible select screen with the letter 'V'.
It is the number of occurrences of a word in the Bible. Click on it to see them all in the selected Bible(s).
This reveals different forms for some words and names. These details are often interesting to scholars, eg the word 'beginning' in Genesis.
