Zij hielpen bij het brengen van de brandoffers, de offers op de sabbat, de viering van de nieuwe maand en bij alle andere feesten. Er waren altijd precies zoveel Levieten aanwezig als nodig was voor de gelegenheid. 1Hun taak was het dus alle voorkomende werkzaamheden in de tabernakel en de tempel te verrichten en de priesters waar dat nodig was, te helpen. 2De taak van de priesters

Ook de priesters, de nakomelingen van Aäron, waren onderverdeeld in twee groepen, die de namen droegen van de zonen van Aäron: Eleazar en Itamar. Nadab en Abihu waren ook zonen van Aäron, maar zij stierven eerder dan hun vader en hadden geen kinderen, zo bleven alleen Eleazar en Itamar over voor de bediening van het priesterambt. 5Na overleg met Sadok en Achimelech, de leiders van respectievelijk de Eleazargroep en de Itamargroep, verdeelde David Aärons nakomelingen over talloze kleine groepen, al naar gelang het soort werk dat zij verrichtten. 6Eleazars nakomelingen werden onderverdeeld in zestien en Itamars nakomelingen in acht groepen. Het bleek namelijk dat onder de nakomelingen van Eleazar meer groepshoofden waren dan onder de nakomelingen van Itamar. 7Door middel van het lot werden de priesters bij de groepen ingedeeld, zodat niemand werd bevoordeeld, want er bevonden zich heel wat beroemde mannen en hoogwaardigheidsbekleders van de tempel in elke groep. 8Semaja, een Leviet en de zoon van Netanel, fungeerde als secretaris en noteerde de namen in het bijzijn van de koning, de leiders van Israël, de priester Sadok, Abjatars zoon Achimelech en de hoofden van de priesters en de Levieten. When you click on a word, the detailed lexicon opens with:
'Vocabulary' Bibles link the translation to Greek & Hebrew. So far, only some Bibles have this vocabulary feature. They are shown in the Bible select screen with the letter 'V'.
It is the number of occurrences of a word in the Bible. Click on it to see them all in the selected Bible(s).
This reveals different forms for some words and names. These details are often interesting to scholars, eg the word 'beginning' in Genesis.
