Daarom is het zowel vóór als na het verbranden waardeloos. Dit bedoel Ik,’ zegt de Oppermachtige Here, ‘de inwoners van Jeruzalem lijken op wijnstokken uit het bos. Nutteloos voordat zij worden verbrand en nog nuttelozer na het verbranden! 1Ik zal Mij tegen hen keren en ervoor zorgen dat als zij aan het ene vuur ontsnappen, zij in het volgende vuur zullen vallen, en dan zult u weten dat Ik de Here ben. 2Ik zal het land tot een woestenij maken, omdat zij Mij ontrouw zijn geworden,’ zegt de Oppermachtige Here. 3 De zonden van Jeruzalem
4Opnieuw kreeg ik een boodschap van de Here: 5‘Mensenzoon,’ zei Hij, ‘confronteer Jeruzalem met haar afschuwelijke zonden. 6Vertel haar dat de Oppermachtige Here zegt: u bent vast nakomelingen van de Kanaänieten. Uw vader moet een Amoriet zijn geweest en uw moeder een Hethitische. 7Toen u geboren was, bekommerde niemand zich om u. Toen Ik u voor het eerst zag, was uw navelstreng nog niet afgebonden, u was nog niet gewassen, niemand had u ingewreven met zout of aangekleed. 8Niemand had enige interesse in u, niemand toonde medelijden of maakte zich zorgen. Maar Ik kwam langs en zag u daar liggen, besmeurd met uw eigen bloed en Ik zei: “Leef! Groei op als een plant op het veld!” En dat deed u. U groeide op tot een lange, mooie en soepele plant, een juweel tussen de andere. Toen u ouder werd, waren uw borsten volgroeid en uw haar was mooi en lang! Toch was u nog naakt. 11Later, toen Ik weer voorbijkwam en u terugzag, was u oud genoeg om te trouwen. Van uw onreinheid heb Ik u gereinigd en u met olie gezalfd. Het bloed heb Ik van u afgewassen. Nadat het huwelijk was voltrokken, gaf Ik u prachtige linnen en zijden kleding, rijk bewerkte gewaden en sandalen van het duurste leer. 14Ik gaf u prachtige sieraden, armbanden en kettingen, 15een ring voor uw neus en twee ringen voor uw oren en een prachtige kroon. 16Zo werd u mooi gemaakt met goud en zilver en uw kleren waren van linnen en zijde, prachtig bewerkt. U at het beste voedsel en werd mooier dan ooit tevoren, zo mooi als een koningin. 17Alle volken wisten hoe mooi u was! Het was een volmaakte schoonheid, dankzij alle sieraden die Ik u gaf,’ zegt de Oppermachtige Here. 18‘Maar u dacht dat u ook wel zonder Mij verder kon en vertrouwde helemaal op uw eigen schoonheid. U gaf uw lichaam als een prostituee aan iedere man die voorbijkwam. Hij hoefde maar te vragen en hij kreeg uw schoonheid. 19U gebruikte de prachtige dingen die Ik u had gegeven om er afgoderij mee te bedrijven en dus ook prostitutie. Ongelooflijk! Zoiets is nog nooit eerder gebeurd! 20U nam de juwelen en de gouden en zilveren sieraden die Ik u had gegeven en maakte er mannelijke afgodsbeelden van, waarmee u prostitutie bedreef. 21U gebruikte de prachtig bewerkte kleding die Ik u gaf, om uw afgodsbeelden mee aan te kleden! Met mijn olie en reukwerk vereerde u hen! 22Voor hen—denk het u eens in—zette u het fijne meel, de olie en de honing neer die Ik u gaf. U gebruikte het als een heerlijk offer aan hen! 23De zonen en dochters die u voor Mij ter wereld had gebracht, offerde u als voedsel aan uw goden. Zij zijn er niet meer. Was het al niet erg genoeg dat u een prostituee was? 24Moest u mijn kinderen ook nog ombrengen in het vuur van heidense altaren?

When you click on a word, the detailed lexicon opens with:
'Vocabulary' Bibles link the translation to Greek & Hebrew. So far, only some Bibles have this vocabulary feature. They are shown in the Bible select screen with the letter 'V'.
It is the number of occurrences of a word in the Bible. Click on it to see them all in the selected Bible(s).
This reveals different forms for some words and names. These details are often interesting to scholars, eg the word 'beginning' in Genesis.
