Prijs de Here, de God van onze voorouders! Want Hij heeft de koning ertoe bewogen de tempel van de Here te verfraaien. 1En prijs de Here, omdat Hij de koning en zijn adviseurs en al zijn machtige vorsten mij zo gunstig gezind heeft laten zijn! Omdat de Here, mijn God, met mij was, durfde ik het aan een aantal leiders van Israël te overreden met mij mee te gaan. 2De terugkeer van Ezra naar Jeruzalem

Daar sloegen wij ook ons kamp op. Bij nader onderzoek bleken er geen Levieten onder het volk en de priesters te zijn! 18Daarom ontbood ik de familiehoofden Eliëzer, Ariël, Semaja, Jarib, Elnatan, Natan, Zecharja en Mesullam, en ook Jojarib en Elnatan, twee wijze mannen. 19Ik zond hen naar Iddo, de leider in de plaats Kasifja. Zij moesten hem en zijn broers en de tempelknechten vragen of zij ons priesters voor de tempel van onze God wilden sturen. 20En de gunst van God was met ons! Hij stuurde een verstandig man, Serebja, met zijn achttien zonen en broers. Serebja was een nakomeling van Machli, de zoon van Levi en kleinzoon van Israël. 21Verder kwamen Chasabja en Jesaja, de zoon van Merari, met zijn twintig broers en zonen en tweehonderdtwintig tempelknechten. 22Tempelknechten zijn helpers van de Levieten, die al door koning David voor deze taak zijn aangesteld. De namen van deze tweehonderdtwintig personen werden genoteerd. 23Om ons onze nederige positie tegenover God te laten beseffen, riep ik bij de rivier de Ahawa een vasten uit. Wij baden tot God dat Hij ons een goede reis zou geven en ons, onze kinderen en onze bezittingen onderweg zou beschermen. 24Ik had mij ervoor geschaamd de koning te vragen om soldaten en ruiters die ons op deze tocht konden beschermen tegen vijanden. Wij hadden namelijk tegen de koning gezegd dat onze God alle mensen die Hem aanbidden, beschermt en dat alleen zij die Hem verlaten, door rampen worden getroffen. 25Daarom vastten wij en baden om Gods bescherming. En Hij verhoorde ons gebed. 26Ik stelde twaalf leiders van de priesters aan: Serebja, Chasabja en tien andere priesters. 27Zij waren verantwoordelijk voor het vervoer van het zilver, het goud en de voorwerpen die de koning, zijn adviseurs, zijn vorsten en de Israëlieten hadden geschonken voor Gods tempel. 28 ▼▼ This verse is empty because in this translation its contents have been moved to form part of verse Ezra 8:27.

Ik woog alles voordat ik het hun gaf. Er was drieëntwintigduizend vierhonderd kilo zilver, zesendertighonderd kilo aan zilveren voorwerpen, zesendertighonderd kilo goud, twintig gouden bekers ter waarde van duizenden goudstukken en twee prachtige bronzen voorwerpen, zo kostbaar alsof ze van goud waren. 30Ik zei tegen deze twaalf mannen: ‘Zoals u aan de Here bent gewijd, zo wijd ik ook deze voorwerpen en het zilver en goud als een vrijwillige gave aan de Here, de God van uw voorouders. 31Bewaak deze schatten goed! Laat er niets ontbreken wanneer u ze in Jeruzalem overhandigt aan de leidende priesters, de Levieten en de leiders van Israël. Zij zullen ze neerzetten in de tempel.’ 32Toen namen de priesters en de Levieten het zilver, het goud en de voorwerpen in ontvangst om ze naar Gods tempel in Jeruzalem te brengen. 33Op de twaalfde dag van de eerste maand braken wij ons kamp aan de rivier de Ahawa op en vertrokken naar Jeruzalem. God was met ons: Hij beschermde ons onderweg tegen vijanden en bandieten. 34Zo kwamen wij veilig in Jeruzalem aan en namen drie dagen rust. 35Op de vierde dag na aankomst werden het zilver, het goud en de voorwerpen in de tempel gewogen. Dit gebeurde onder toezicht van priester Meremot, de zoon van Uria. Hij werd geassisteerd door Elazar, de zoon van Pinechas, Jozabad, de zoon van Jesua, en Noadja, de zoon van Binnuï. Zij waren allemaal Levieten. 36Zij telden en wogen alles en noteerden elk gewicht.

When you click on a word, the detailed lexicon opens with:
'Vocabulary' Bibles link the translation to Greek & Hebrew. So far, only some Bibles have this vocabulary feature. They are shown in the Bible select screen with the letter 'V'.
It is the number of occurrences of a word in the Bible. Click on it to see them all in the selected Bible(s).
This reveals different forms for some words and names. These details are often interesting to scholars, eg the word 'beginning' in Genesis.
