1De Israëlieten hebben eerst het gebied ten oosten van de Jordaan in bezit genomen dat zich uitstrekt van het dal van de rivier de Arnon tot aan de berg Hermon, met de steden in de oostelijk gelegen woestijn. Zij versloegen daar twee koningen: 2koning Sichon van de Amorieten, die in Chesbon woonde. Zijn koninkrijk strekte zich uit over Aroër aan de rivier de Arnon, halverwege het dal van de Arnon tot aan de rivier de Jabbok, die ook de grens met de Ammonieten vormt. Hierbij hoort tevens de helft van Gilead ten noorden van de Jabbok. 3Sichons macht strekte zich ook uit over het dal van de Jordaan, met in het noorden als grens de westelijke oever van het Meer van Galilea en in het zuiden begrensd door de Zoutzee en de hellingen van de berg Pisga. 4De ander was koning Og van Basan, een van de laatste reuzen. Hij woonde in Astarot en Edreï; 5hij heerste over een gebied dat zich uitstrekte van de berg Hermon in het noorden tot Salka op de berg Basan in het oosten en de grenzen van de koninkrijken Gesur en Maächa in het westen. In het zuiden strekte zijn koninkrijk zich uit tot en met de noordelijke helft van Gilead, waar zijn gebied aan het koninkrijk van koning Sichon van Chesbon grensde. 6Mozes en de Israëlieten hadden deze volken indertijd vernietigd en Mozes gaf hun land aan de stammen van Ruben, Gad en de halve stam Manasse. 7Dit zijn de koningen die ten westen van de Jordaan regeerden en gedood werden door Jozua en de legers van Israël. De volken die daar leefden, waren de Hethieten, Amorieten, Kanaänieten, Perizzieten, Chiwwieten en Jebusieten. Hier volgen dan de koningen: de koning van Jericho, de koning van Ai vlak bij Betel, de koning van Jeruzalem, de koning van Hebron, de koning van Jarmut, de koning van Lachis, de koning van Eglon, de koning van Geser, de koning van Debir, de koning van Geder, de koning van Chorma, de koning van Arad, de koning van Libna, de koning van Adullam, de koning van Makkeda, de koning van Betel, de koning van Tappuach, de koning van Chefer, de koning van Afek, de koning van de Saronvlakte, de koning van Madon, de koning van Hasor, de koning van Simron-Meron, de koning van Achsaf, de koning van Taänach, de koning van Megiddo, de koning van Kedes, de koning van Jokneam bij de Karmel, de koning van Dor in het heuvelgebied van Dor, de koning van Goïm bij Gilgal en de koning van Tirsa. In totaal werden dus eenendertig koningen met hun steden vernietigd.

When you click on a word, the detailed lexicon opens with:
'Vocabulary' Bibles link the translation to Greek & Hebrew. So far, only some Bibles have this vocabulary feature. They are shown in the Bible select screen with the letter 'V'.
It is the number of occurrences of a word in the Bible. Click on it to see them all in the selected Bible(s).
This reveals different forms for some words and names. These details are often interesting to scholars, eg the word 'beginning' in Genesis.
