Nehemiah 10
De overvloedige opbrengst van het land gaat naar de koningen die U over ons laat heersen als straf voor onze zonden. Zij kunnen vrij beschikken over ons lichaam en ons vee en mogen met ons doen wat zij willen. Daarom voelen wij ons ellendig. 1Om al deze redenen beloven wij opnieuw God te zullen dienen! We zullen dit verbond op schrift stellen en het ondertekenen. Ook onze leiders, Levieten en priesters zullen hun handtekening eronder zetten.’ 2Het volk belooft trouw aan God

De leiders die tekenden waren Paros, Pachat-Moab, Elam, Zattu, Bani, Bunni, Azgad, Bebai, Adonia, Bigwai, Adin, Ater, Chizkia, Azzur, Hodia, Chasum, Besai, Charif, Anatot, Nebai, Magpias, Mesullam, Chezir, Mesezabel, Sadok, Jaddua, Pelatja, Chanan, Anaja, Hosea, Chananja, Chassub, Halloches, Pilcha, Sobek, Rechum, Chasabna, Maäseja, Achia, Chanan, Anan, Malluch, Charim en Baäna. 30Zij tekenden allemaal uit naam van het hele volk, dus uit naam van de gewone mensen, de priesters, Levieten, poortwachters, zangers, tempelknechten en alle anderen die zich hadden afgescheiden van de heidense volken om God te dienen. Dit gold ook voor hun vrouwen en voor de kinderen die oud genoeg waren om het te begrijpen. 31Wij stemden allemaal van harte in met deze eed. 32En wij zwoeren dat de Oppermachtige Here ons mocht straffen als we ons niet aan alle wetten zouden houden die Hij ons door zijn knecht Mozes had gegeven. Wij beloofden ook dat wij onze zonen en dochters niet zouden laten trouwen met niet-Israëlitische vrouwen en mannen. 33Als niet-Israëlitische mensen graan of andere artikelen te koop zouden aanbieden op een sabbatdag of een andere heilige dag, spraken wij af niets van hen te kopen. Wij kwamen overeen dat wij eens in de zeven jaar het bouwland een jaar zouden laten braakliggen. In dat jaar zouden wij ook de schulden kwijtschelden. 34Verder spraken wij af jaarlijks een vast bedrag aan de tempel te geven. 35Want er was geld nodig voor het offerbrood, het dagelijkse spijs- en brandoffer en de viering van de sabbat, het begin van een nieuwe maand en andere feesten. Bovendien hadden we geld nodig om andere dingen te kopen die voor het werk in de tempel nodig waren. En er moest geld komen voor het offer voor de verzoening van Israëls zonden. 36Toen lootten wij erom welke families van priesters, Levieten of gewone mensen hout moesten leveren voor de brandoffers in de tempel. Dit gebeurde in overeenstemming met de voorschriften uit de wet en het hout moest jaarlijks op een vastgestelde tijd worden geleverd. 37Wij beloofden dat we elk jaar de eerste opbrengst van elke oogst naar de tempel zouden brengen. Wij zouden zowel de opbrengst van onze akkers als van onze vruchtbomen geven. 38En we spraken af onze oudste zonen en de eerstgeborenen van ons rundvee en ons kleinvee aan God te geven, zoals de wet vereist. We zouden ze bij de priesters brengen die in de tempel dienstdeden. 39Zij zouden al het geschonken voedsel in de tempel opslaan. Dat was dus het beste deel van de graanoogst, de bijdragen voor de priesters en Levieten, de eerste vruchten en de eerste nieuwe wijn en olijfolie. Wij beloofden een tiende deel van de opbrengst van onze akkers aan de Levieten te geven. Zij moesten dat in onze steden op het platteland ophalen.

How do I do a word study?

When you click on a word, the detailed lexicon opens with:
'Vocabulary' Bibles link the translation to Greek & Hebrew. So far, only some Bibles have this vocabulary feature. They are shown in the Bible select screen with the letter 'V'.
It is the number of occurrences of a word in the Bible. Click on it to see them all in the selected Bible(s).
This reveals different forms for some words and names. These details are often interesting to scholars, eg the word 'beginning' in Genesis.
