Genesis 32
1Iacov și-a continuat drumul și l-au întâlnit îngerii lui Dumnezeu. 2Când i-a văzut, Iacov a zis: „Aceasta este tabăra lui Dumnezeu“. Și a pus acelui loc numele Mahanaim. ▼▼Mahanaim înseamnă Două Tabere.
Iacov se pregătește să-l întâlnească pe Esau
3Iacov a trimis înaintea lui mesageri la fratele său, Esau, în țara Seir, pe teritoriul Edomului. 4El le-a poruncit, zicând: „Așa să-i spuneți stăpânului meu, Esau: «Așa vorbește slujitorul tău, Iacov: ‘Am locuit cu Laban și am rămas la el până acum. 5Am boi, măgari, turme, slujitori și slujitoare și am trimis acest mesaj stăpânului meu, ca să găsesc bunăvoință înaintea ta’»“.6Mesagerii s-au întors la Iacov, zicând: „Ne-am dus la fratele tău, Esau, iar el vine în întâmpinarea ta cu patru sute de bărbați“. 7Iacov s-a temut foarte tare și era îngrijorat. A împărțit în două tabere oamenii care erau cu el, turmele, cirezile și cămilele 8și a zis: „Dacă Esau vine împotriva uneia dintre tabere și o atacă, cealaltă tabără va putea să scape“.
9Apoi Iacov a zis: „Doamne, Dumnezeul tatălui meu, Avraam, și Dumnezeul tatălui meu, Isaac, Cel Care mi-ai spus: «Întoarce-te în țara ta, la rudele tale, și-ți voi face bine», 10sunt nedemn de toată îndurarea și toată credincioșia pe care le-ai arătat față de slujitorul Tău, pentru că am trecut Iordanul doar cu toiagul meu, iar acum am ajuns două tabere. 11Scapă-mă, Te rog, din mâna fratelui meu, din mâna lui Esau, deoarece mă tem că va veni și ne va ataca, pe mine, pe mame și pe copii. 12Totuși, Tu ai zis: «Cu siguranță îți voi face bine și-ți voi face urmașii la fel de numeroși ca nisipul mării, care nu poate fi numărat»“.
13El a rămas acolo peste noapte și a luat din agoniseala mâinilor lui un dar pentru Esau, fratele său: 14două sute de capre și douăzeci de țapi, două sute de oi și douăzeci de berbeci, 15treizeci de cămile care alăptau, împreună cu puii lor, patruzeci de vaci și zece tauri, precum și douăzeci de măgărițe și zece măgari. 16El le-a dat slujitorilor săi câte o turmă fiecăruia, și le-a zis: „Mergeți înaintea mea și lăsați o distanță între turme“. 17El i-a poruncit celui dintâi, zicând: „Când îl vei întâlni pe fratele meu, Esau, iar el te va întreba: «Al cui ești? Unde te duci? Și ale cui sunt aceste animale dinaintea ta?», 18tu să-i răspunzi: «Sunt ale slujitorului tău Iacov. Sunt un dar trimis stăpânului meu Esau. Iată, el însuși vine în urma noastr㻓. 19Iacov a poruncit celui de-al doilea, celui de-al treilea și tuturor celor care mânau turmele, zicând: „Să-i spuneți același lucru lui Esau, când îl veți întâlni. 20Spuneți-i, de asemenea: «Iată, slujitorul tău, Iacov, vine în urma noastră!»“, căci își zicea: „Îl voi liniști cu darul pe care-l trimit înaintea mea, iar când îl voi vedea față în față, poate mă va accepta“. 21Astfel, darul a trecut înaintea lui, iar el a rămas în tabără în noaptea aceea.
Lupta lui Iacov la Peniel
22În aceeași noapte, Iacov s-a sculat, și-a luat cele două soții, cele două slujitoare și cei unsprezece copii și a trecut vadul Iabok. 23I-a luat, i-a trecut pârâul, apoi a trecut tot ce avea.24Iacov a rămas singur, iar un bărbat s-a luptat ▼

Dar Iacov a răspuns:
‒ Nu Te voi lăsa să pleci până nu mă vei binecuvânta.
27Și El l-a întrebat:
‒ Cum te cheamă?
El a răspuns:
‒ Iacov.
28Atunci bărbatul acela i-a zis:
‒ Nu te vei mai numi Iacov, ci Israel, ▼
▼Israel înseamnă El se luptă cu Dumnezeu.
pentru că te-ai luptat cu Dumnezeu și cu oamenii și ai învins.29Iacov L-a întrebat:
‒ Spune-mi, Te rog, Numele Tău.
El i-a răspuns:
‒ De ce Îmi ceri Numele?
Și l-a binecuvântat acolo. 30Iacov a pus acelui loc numele Peniel, ▼
▼Peniel înseamnă Fața lui Dumnezeu.
zicând: „L-am văzut pe Dumnezeu față în față și totuși am scăpat cu viață“. 31Răsărea soarele când a plecat Iacov din Peniel, șchiopătând din coapsă. 32Până în ziua de azi, fiii lui Israel nu mănâncă tendonul de la încheietura coapsei animalelor, deoarece Iacov a fost lovit în tendonul de la încheietura coapsei.

When you click on a word, the detailed lexicon opens with:
'Vocabulary' Bibles link the translation to Greek & Hebrew. So far, only some Bibles have this vocabulary feature. They are shown in the Bible select screen with the letter 'V'.
It is the number of occurrences of a word in the Bible. Click on it to see them all in the selected Bible(s).
This reveals different forms for some words and names. These details are often interesting to scholars, eg the word 'beginning' in Genesis.
