1ในเมืองสะมาเรียมีผู้ชายที่เป็นเชื้อพระวงศ์ของอาหับอยู่เจ็ดสิบคน เยฮูจึงส่งสาส์นไปยังเจ้าหน้าที่ของยิสเรเอล ▼▼สำเนา LXX. บางฉบับ และ Vulg. ว่าของเมืองนั้น
บรรดาผู้อาวุโสและองครักษ์ของเหล่าเชื้อพระวงศ์ของอาหับ มีใจความว่า 2“ในเมื่อวงศ์วานเจ้านายของท่านก็อยู่กับพวกท่าน และท่านมีรถม้าศึก ม้า เมืองป้อมปราการ และอาวุธ ดังนั้นทันทีที่ได้รับสาส์นฉบับนี้ 3จงเลือกเชื้อพระวงศ์คนที่ดีเลิศที่สุดของเจ้านายของท่าน และตั้งเขาไว้บนบัลลังก์ของบิดา จากนั้นจงต่อสู้เพื่อราชวงศ์ของนายของท่าน” 4แต่พวกเขาหวาดหวั่นขวัญผวาและกล่าวว่า “กษัตริย์สององค์ยังไม่อาจต่อกรกับเขาได้ แล้วเราจะทำอะไรได้?”

6เยฮูเขียนสาส์นฉบับที่สองถึงคนเหล่านั้นความว่า “หากท่านทั้งหลายเป็นฝ่ายเราและจะปฏิบัติตามคำสั่งของเรา ก็จงนำศีรษะเหล่าเชื้อพระวงศ์ที่เป็นชายของเจ้านายของท่านมาให้เราที่ยิสเรเอลพรุ่งนี้ในเวลาเดียวกันนี้”
ขณะนั้นเชื้อพระวงศ์ทั้งเจ็ดสิบคนของอาหับพักอยู่ตามบ้านของบรรดาผู้นำของเมืองที่เลี้ยงดูพวกเขามา 7เมื่อผู้นำเหล่านั้นได้รับสาส์นก็ประหารเชื้อพระวงศ์ของอาหับทั้งเจ็ดสิบคน ตัดศีรษะใส่ตะกร้านำมามอบให้เยฮูที่ยิสเรเอล 8เมื่อผู้สื่อสารมาแจ้งเยฮูว่า “พวกเขาได้นำศีรษะของบรรดาเชื้อพระวงศ์มาแล้ว”
เยฮูก็สั่งว่า “ให้กองสุมกันเป็นสองกองตรงทางเข้าประตูเมืองจนถึงรุ่งเช้า”
9เช้าวันรุ่งขึ้นเยฮูก็ออกไปปราศรัยต่อหน้าประชาชนทั้งปวงว่า “พวกท่านไม่ได้ทำผิดอันใด ข้าพเจ้าเองที่คิดล้มล้างนายของข้าพเจ้าและประหารเขา แต่ใครเล่าประหารเชื้อพระวงศ์เหล่านี้? 10รู้ไว้เถิดว่าพระดำรัสที่องค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าตรัสไว้เกี่ยวกับราชวงศ์อาหับจะสำเร็จทุกประการ องค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าได้ทรงกระทำตามที่ทรงสัญญาไว้ผ่านทางเอลียาห์ผู้รับใช้ของพระองค์” 11จากนั้นเยฮูก็ประหารพวกพ้องทั้งหมดของอาหับที่เหลืออยู่ในยิสเรเอล รวมทั้งข้าราชบริพารคนสำคัญ สหายคนสนิทและปุโรหิต ไม่มีใครเหลือรอดสักคน
12แล้วเยฮูออกเดินทางไปสะมาเรีย ที่เบธเอเขดหมู่บ้านของคนเลี้ยงแกะ 13เยฮูพบเชื้อพระวงศ์ของอาหัสยาห์แห่งยูดาห์ จึงตรัสถามว่า “พวกท่านเป็นใครกัน?”
เขาตอบว่า “พวกเราเป็นญาติของกษัตริย์อาหัสยาห์ มาเยี่ยมพระราชวงศ์ของกษัตริย์และราชมารดา”
14เยฮูตรัสสั่งว่า “จับตัวไว้” แล้วจับกุมพวกเขาไปยังบ่อน้ำแห่งเบธเอเขด และประหารพวกเขาทั้งหมด 42 คน ไม่ให้ใครเหลือรอดสักคนเดียว
15เมื่อเยฮูออกเดินทางต่อไปก็พบเยโฮนาดับบุตรเรคาบออกมาต้อนรับ เยฮูทักทายแล้วตรัสว่า “ท่านใจตรงกับเรา เหมือนที่ใจเราตรงกับท่านหรือเปล่า?”
เยโฮนาดับตอบว่า “ถูกต้องแล้วพระเจ้าข้า”
เยฮูจึงตรัสว่า “ถ้าอย่างนั้น ยื่นมือมาเถิด” แล้วเยฮูก็ช่วยดึงเยโฮนาดับขึ้นมาบนรถม้าศึก 16เยฮูตรัสว่า “มากับเราสิ มาดูว่าเรากระตือรือร้นเพื่อองค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าแค่ไหน” เยโฮนาดับจึงร่วมเสด็จไปด้วย
17เมื่อเยฮูมาถึงสะมาเรียก็ทรงประหารคนที่เหลืออยู่ทั้งหมดในราชวงศ์อาหับตามที่องค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าได้ตรัสไว้กับเอลียาห์
ประหารชีวิตผู้นมัสการพระบาอัล
18แล้วเยฮูทรงเรียกประชาชนทั้งปวงมารวมกันและตรัสแก่พวกเขาว่า “อาหับปรนนิบัติพระบาอัลเล็กน้อย เยฮูจะปรนนิบัติพระบาอัลให้มาก 19จงเรียกบรรดาผู้ทำนายและปุโรหิตของพระบาอัล รวมทั้งผู้ปรนนิบัติพระบาอัลมาให้หมด อย่าให้ขาดแม้สักคนเดียว เพราะเราจะจัดให้มีการเซ่นสังเวยครั้งใหญ่แก่พระบาอัล ใครไม่มาจะต้องถูกประหาร” ทั้งนี้เป็นแผนลวงของเยฮูที่จะกำจัดผู้ปรนนิบัติพระบาอัล20เยฮูตรัสว่า “จงพร้อมใจกันมาชุมนุมเพื่อเป็นเกียรติแก่พระบาอัล” พวกเขาจึงป่าวประกาศข้อความนั้น 21แล้วพระองค์ทรงแจ้งไปทั่วแดนอิสราเอล ผู้ที่ปรนนิบัติพระบาอัลพากันมาครบทุกคน แน่นขนัดเต็มวิหารของพระบาอัล 22เยฮูตรัสสั่งคนดูแลเสื้อผ้าว่า “จงนำเสื้อคลุมมาให้ผู้ปรนนิบัติพระบาอัลให้ครบทุกคน” เขาจึงนำเสื้อคลุมออกมาให้ทุกคน
23จากนั้นเยฮูกับเยโฮนาดับบุตรเรคาบเข้าไปในวิหาร และกล่าวแก่ผู้ปรนนิบัติพระบาอัลว่า “มองดูให้รอบ อย่าให้มีผู้รับใช้ขององค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าร่วมอยู่ในนี้เลย ให้มีแต่ผู้ปรนนิบัติพระบาอัลเท่านั้น” 24ขณะที่ปุโรหิตของพระบาอัลเริ่มถวายเครื่องบูชาและเครื่องเผาบูชา เยฮูวางกำลังแปดสิบคนไว้นอกวิหาร และสั่งพวกเขาว่า “หากใครปล่อยให้คนที่เรามอบหมายไว้ในมือของเจ้าหนีรอดไปได้แม้แต่คนเดียว เราจะเอาชีวิตของเจ้าทดแทนชีวิตของเขา”

30 องค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าตรัสกับเยฮูว่า “เพราะเจ้าได้ทำสิ่งที่ถูกต้องในสายตาของเราสำเร็จลุล่วงไปด้วยดี และได้ทำลายราชวงศ์ของอาหับตามที่เราได้ตั้งใจไว้ทุกประการ ดังนั้นวงศ์วานของเจ้าสี่ชั่วอายุคนจะได้ครองบัลลังก์ของอิสราเอล” 31แต่เยฮูไม่ได้ใส่ใจทำตามบทบัญญัติของพระยาห์เวห์พระเจ้าแห่งอิสราเอลด้วยสุดจิตสุดใจ เขาไม่ได้หันจากบาปของเยโรโบอัมซึ่งชักนำอิสราเอลให้ทำตาม

When you click on a word, the detailed lexicon opens with:
'Vocabulary' Bibles link the translation to Greek & Hebrew. So far, only some Bibles have this vocabulary feature. They are shown in the Bible select screen with the letter 'V'.
It is the number of occurrences of a word in the Bible. Click on it to see them all in the selected Bible(s).
This reveals different forms for some words and names. These details are often interesting to scholars, eg the word 'beginning' in Genesis.
