ประชาชนอิสราเอลก็ระทดท้อขวัญเสียไป 6โยชูวาจึงฉีกเสี้อผ้าหมอบกราบซบหน้าลงกับพื้นด้านหน้าหีบพันธสัญญาขององค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าจนถึงเวลาเย็น บรรดาผู้อาวุโสของอิสราเอลก็ทำเช่นเดียวกัน และโปรยฝุ่นใส่ศีรษะของตน 7โยชูวากราบทูลว่า “ข้าแต่พระยาห์เวห์องค์เจ้าชีวิต เหตุใดจึงทรงนำเหล่าประชากรนี้ข้ามแม่น้ำจอร์แดนมาสู่เงื้อมมือชาวอาโมไรต์ให้เขาทำลายเรา? พวกข้าพระองค์น่าจะพอใจที่จะอาศัยฝั่งข้างโน้นของแม่น้ำจอร์แดน 8ข้าแต่องค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้า ข้าพระองค์จะพูดอย่างไรดี ในเมื่ออิสราเอลพ่ายแพ้ศัตรูมาเช่นนี้? 9ชาวคานาอันและชนชาติใกล้เคียงได้ยินเรื่องนี้ ก็จะมารุมล้อมกวาดล้างข้าพระองค์ทั้งหลายให้สิ้นชื่อไปจากแผ่นดิน และจะเกิดอะไรขึ้นกับพระนามอันยิ่งใหญ่ของพระองค์?”
10 องค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าตรัสกับโยชูวาว่า “จงลุกขึ้น! เจ้าหมอบกราบซบหน้าลงกับพื้นทำไม? 11อิสราเอลได้ทำบาป ฝ่าฝืนพันธสัญญาของเราซึ่งบัญชาให้เขาปฏิบัติ พวกเขาซุกซ่อนของที่ต้องอุทิศถวาย เขาขโมยและโกหก เก็บสิ่งเหล่านั้นไว้กับทรัพย์สินส่วนตัว 12ด้วยเหตุนี้เองชนชาติอิสราเอลจึงไม่สามารถต่อสู้กับศัตรู แต่ต้องพ่ายแพ้เพราะถูกกำหนดไว้ให้พินาศ เราจะไม่อยู่กับพวกเจ้าอีกต่อไป เว้นแต่ว่าเจ้าทั้งหลายได้ทำลายของที่ต้องอุทิศถวายซึ่งเราสั่งให้ทำลายไปเสียก่อน
13“ไปเถิด ไปชำระเหล่าประชากรให้บริสุทธิ์ และสั่งพวกเขาว่า ‘จงชำระตนให้บริสุทธิ์ เตรียมตัวสำหรับวันรุ่งขึ้น เพราะพระยาห์เวห์พระเจ้าแห่งอิสราเอลตรัสดังนี้ว่า มีสิ่งที่ต้องอุทิศถวายอยู่ท่ามกลางพวกเจ้า อิสราเอลเอ๋ย เจ้าจะไม่สามารถต่อสู้กับศัตรูจนกว่าจะได้กำจัดสิ่งนั้นไป
14“ ‘เช้าวันพรุ่งนี้พวกเจ้าจงมารายงานตัวทีละเผ่า เผ่าที่องค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าทรงระบุ จงออกมาข้างหน้าทีละตระกูล ตระกูลที่องค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าทรงระบุ จงออกมาข้างหน้าทีละครอบครัว ครอบครัวที่องค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าทรงระบุ จงออกมาข้างหน้าทีละคน 15ผู้ที่ถูกจับได้ว่ามีของต้องอุทิศถวาย จะถูกเผาทำลายพร้อมทั้งข้าวของทุกอย่างของเขา เพราะเขาได้ละเมิดพันธสัญญาขององค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าทำสิ่งที่น่าอับอายในอิสราเอล!’”
16เช้าตรู่วันรุ่งขึ้นโยชูวาจึงให้ชนอิสราเอลออกมาข้างหน้าทีละเผ่า จับได้เผ่ายูดาห์ 17ตระกูลต่างๆ ของยูดาห์ออกมาข้างหน้า จับได้ตระกูลเศราห์ ครอบครัวต่างๆ ของเศราห์ออกมาข้างหน้า จับได้ครอบครัวศิมรี 18โยชูวาให้ครอบครัวศิมรีออกมาทีละคน จับได้อาคานบุตรคารมีซึ่งเป็นบุตรศิมรี ซึ่งเป็นบุตรเศราห์แห่งเผ่ายูดาห์
19โยชูวาจึงกล่าวกับอาคานว่า “ลูกเอ๋ยจงถวายเกียรติแด่พระยาห์เวห์ ▼

When you click on a word, the detailed lexicon opens with:
'Vocabulary' Bibles link the translation to Greek & Hebrew. So far, only some Bibles have this vocabulary feature. They are shown in the Bible select screen with the letter 'V'.
It is the number of occurrences of a word in the Bible. Click on it to see them all in the selected Bible(s).
This reveals different forms for some words and names. These details are often interesting to scholars, eg the word 'beginning' in Genesis.
